After adoring Touch of Frost so much, I worried a little that this one wouldn't live up to my expectations. But, did it ever. Seriously, I think I even liked it more (and I gave Touch of Frost 5 stars). It had the right amount of snark mixed with some great action and them some romance. And Gwen has friends in this one!!!!

This next installment in the Mythos Academy series centers around the Winter Carnival, a weekend "field-trip" for the students at the Academy, where they go and ski and have parties. And it's school sponsored. Go figure. There's lots of drama and lots of danger there for poor Gwen, but she does start to understand this whole Champion thing better. And she has friends! (I love her friends, like no joke.) She fights reapers, learns some family secrets, falls a little harder for the sexy Logan Quinn, makes some enemies, and talks to her sword. Oh, and she has her BFF, Daphne, with her *most* of the time. I loved the plot of this book. It had me captivated for like the 3 hours it took me to read it yesterday. I had such a hard time putting it down. There's so much more action and drama and twists and turns, and put together they just made it so awesome.

I also adored the character in this one. We get to know Daphne and Carson and Logan (especially Logan) a lot better, because Gwen is getting to know them better. I love Daphne's love of pink. I love pink, too, but not as obsessively as this chick. I mean she is typically completely decked out in it. It's awesome. She also has a little bit of a vindictive side, and we get to see that a lot more in Kiss of Frost. And then there's the sweet band geek, Carson, Daphne's boyfriend. I just generally like him. He's a nice guy and it's cute that he and Daphne are together. I already adored Logan, but he's even better in this book. He's not just a player, he has a lot of different sides to him that I loved to see come out. I mean, he's still a player and all, but he's likeable, and his playerness is a little more understandable once you finish Kiss of Frost. And I loved Gwen. She's just kind of the awkward sort of adorable that I love to see in a heroine, but she's also totally kick butt, and can be a little stupid. That doesn't sound like a good thing, but it made her human. She also has a little bit of a smart mouth and can crack mean jokes at the drop of a hat, like me, so I like that about her, too.

This cover is just gorgeous. I love the frost and the eyeshadow on cover-Gwen. The colors are so frozen and cover- Gwen really is gorgeous. It fit the overall theme of the book perfectly. And the super stoic chick who checked out my books when I was buying them at the bookstore thought it was super cool. (seriously. she paused for a sec and stared at it, and was like "Sorry. That's really cool.") I figure that's a cover design success.

So, yeah. This next Mythos Academy book definitely gets another 5 stars. I loved it and the mythology that was wound through Gwen's world. It was interesting and gorgeous and I'm really glad that I own it, so I can reread it. Definitely a must-read series, if you ask me.
